Week 3 Time on a Cross

Time on a cross depicts a romanticized version of Southern slavery, specifically the labor conditions of those slaves and the reasons for their enslavement. Slavery no matter the conditions, was an exploitation of a group of people for another’s economic, maybe even political gain. We as a people cannot ignore the severity of details those enslaved suffered, no matter how “good” or “bad” they had it wherever they were enslaved. Historians must fulfill their responsibility to the reader: inform the reader with enough information to give them knowledge on historical situations regardless of its severity, while also not inundating their reader with information that will take more time to refute than to build upon. That is what the authors of Time on a cross failed to do with Cliometrics regarding the economics of Southern slavery, and the conditions of the enslaved.
